Tom Morin

I’m completing a Master of Counselling Psychology at City University in Calgary, and I’m seeking a counselling internship starting in the Winter of 2027.

I began my working life in the military. After that, I moved into the corporate world in Calgary, and, recently, I’ve been an instructor at universities in Western Canada. I’m also in my fifth year of volunteering at the Distress Centre Calgary.

My goal is to become a Registered Psychologist and I’m excited about starting this next chapter in my career journey.

Tom’s Counselling Practice Goals and Experience

I have great micro-skills in counselling sessions and quickly build rapport. My experience, both on the distress lines and in my varied career, enables me to connect with a diverse population.

I‘m interested in supporting adults struggling with stress and coping in the workplace, depression, anxiety, and navigating major life events: divorce, job loss, retirement, aging, death & dying, and eldercare. Also, due to my military experience, I’m interested in supporting first responders, military personnel, and veterans who struggle with trauma, stress and coping in the workplace, and finding fulfilment and meaning in their personal lives.

Currently, I’m interested in short-term therapy modalities (CBT, SFT, ACT), but I am continuously upgrading my skills and looking forward to learning during my internship.

By the Winter of 2027, I will have completed all the counselling courses in my Masters program: family, addiction, grief & loss, group, couples, trauma, child & adolescent, and sexuality counselling. Theory and ethics courses will also be completed.
